Step 2 - Evaluation of Your Current BMW

Consistent with any car lease, our team will evaluate your current leased vehicle for any damage or excess wear. If found, this is chargeable. We encourage you to schedule a pre-inspection at BMW of San Rafael 90-120 days prior to your lease end date. During this pre-inspection, our team will evaluate your vehicle’s condition and provide you with an estimate of potential charges.

Our final inspection is done here at BMW of San Rafael, and our team can handle all of the necessary paperwork for BMW Financial Services right here during your visit.

Step 3 - Repairing Your Current BMW, If Necessary

If any excess wear, excess use, or other damage is found, you will receive an estimated cost shortly after your inspection. We recommend having these repairs done at BMW of San Rafael to ensure they are done properly. Upon repair, you will be required to forward your repair receipts to BMW Financial Services so they can update your maturity billing accordingly.

If you choose, you can return your BMW as is and pay any outstanding charges at that time. Whatever is more convenient for you.

For some, saying goodbye to your faithful BMW isn’t as easy as it is for others. We don’t blame you. Your BMW has been there for you through countless memories, and it isn’t easy to let go. If that’s the case for you, you will have these options.

Option 1 - Purchase It

Purchase the vehicle outright. A purchase option price will be given to you, or you can finance the remaining amount with BMW Financial Services. These two options free you from the responsibility of any excessive wear and use and allow you to customize your BMW to your liking.

Option 2 - Extend Your Lease

Re-lease your BMW. Contact our team at BMW of San Rafael if this is the option that you’d like, and we’ll provide you with further leasing options.

Return Your BMW

Step 1 - Evaluating Your BMW

Similar to if you were to switch to a new BMW, your current BMW will undergo an evaluation to see if any repairs need to be made. A pre-inspection can be scheduled 90-120 days prior to your lease end. Approximately 60 days prior to the end of your lease, an independent inspection company will conduct an impartial inspection to determine the vehicle’s condition.

Step 2 - Repairing Your Current BMW, If Necessary

Step 3 - Returning Your BMW to BMW of San Rafael

We ask that you contact BMW of San Rafael l to schedule an appointment to return your leased BMW on or before your lease maturity date. We will review the condition of your vehicle and check that the necessary repairs have been made. Upon completion, you and BMW of San Rafael will sign a Vehicle Return Confirmation form to validate that the lease return process is complete.

BMW Lease Return Process and Timeline - What Else You Need to Know

  • Approximately 120 days before your lease ends, BMW of San Rafael will call you to remind you. This is when we suggest starting to consider coming in for a pre-inspection, and to let us know what your end of lease plans are in terms of the three options above.
  • Upon completion of the inspection, you'll be made aware of any necessary repairs required before the maturity of your BMW lease. If you choose, you may return the vehicle as is and pay the repair costs at the time of vehicle turn-in. If you choose to repair the vehicle prior to turning it in, we suggest bringing it in to BMW of San Rafael so our team of experts can ensure it is repaired in the optimal manner.
  • If you are returning your vehicle to BMW of San Rafael, it must be returned before or on the lease maturity date. Please call our team in advance to set up an appointment for your return.
